New Team Member
Well kind of new, Lewis has been with us now for just over 18 months but so much has been going on we have not been shouting about him.
Following the acquisition of Globe Automatics and the switching of our all our machines to the new £20 note it has been a busy time for us all at Comrie.
Lewis has been thrown in at the deep end and I am pleased to say he can swim!
It was actually a long wait for Lewis to start with us as a week before his start date he was rushed into hospital to have major heart surgery. After his operation he had to recuperate with 12 months rest. We told him to stay in touch as he had the makings of a good engineer.
Lewis loves taking apart iphones and ipads and repairing them, so he has become the go to man when any of the team break their phones. This has also proved valuable as lots of the fruit machines we supply are now digital!
We also have some other great news about Lewis which he has just broke to the team – he is going to become a dad for the second time.
Congratulations to you both from all at Comrie.
MEET THE COMRIE TEAM
This month the spot light is on Andy McKirdy of the Comrie team.
Andy has been part of the team for 18 months now and is Chief Machine Installation Engineer.
When Andy came to Comrie for his first interview it came out that Andy’s dad, also called Andy, was licensee of the Transport Social Club in Coventry for 15 years.
This social club was one of the Comrie’s long standing sites until it went the way of so many clubs and pubs over the last few years and closed down.
Comrie’s original founder – Harry Greig, knew Andy Senior well and would often call in to the Transport club for a late night drink!
Andy is a qualified electrician which is a great fit for dealing with the modern electronics that are now in digital fruit machines that we hire out to pubs and clubs.
When we asked Andy about his hobbies outside work, he said, “ I have four kids so there’s no time, but I would like to be on the golf course”.
Andy is also in charge of all PAT testing on our gaming and amusement machines before they go out on site. It is great to have Andy as part of our great team here at Comrie.
The Comrie team all got together last Thursday evening for a competitive night of Go-Kart racing at Team Works indoor karting in Digbeth, Birmingham.
With bragging rights the next working day at stake the Comrie team was raring to go. A few racers had their excuses prepared – “the kart goes faster if you are lighter” etc etc.
We had a great evening, which was partly to celebrate what a great job the Comrie team had done over the previous months converting all our fruit machines, digital gaming machines and amusement machines to accept the new £1 coin.
With the new £1 coin finally here we are already seeing the new pound coins in the cash box, but as with the new £5 note they will be rapidly appearing in peoples pockets. It has been a long and costly process to which the government gave no help in monetary, subsidies/grants and very little advice. Even the prototype coins we were sent to help us in advance were changed a few weeks before implementation date, making the job even harder!
Even so with a great team we got there and all Comrie’s customer’s machines are now taking the new £1 coin in their fruit machines and digital gaming machines. If your pub or club fruit machines are not taking the new £1 coin as yet then speak with your supplier as you will be missing out on profit and more importantly the old coin will be disappearing from circulation. Or give the team at comrie a
call to chat about our great deals on fruit machine hire that are the latest machines and all new £1 coin ready.
The Go-Karting results! As you can see by the photos above, three of the Comrie team (Mark, Jimmy & Justin) are looking very happy to be on the podium. A great night was had by all and we finished the night off with a couple of pints and a curry whilst ribbing Jason Miles one of the Directors for not only coming last but also by getting beaten by his son, Jack.
They say new blood can breath fresh life in to a business and Jimmy has certainly done that. Jimmy has come from the IT sector so has adapted easily to looking after and servicing all our digital jukeboxes and gaming machines.
In his own words ‘his party days are well behind him’ and now he loves nothing more than jumping on his bike for a long bike ride.
He also enjoys in his down time spending time with his young family. With two young lads who have followed in his foot steps and taken up rugby, Jimmy can be heard ‘clearly’ at the touch line shouting them on.
Jimmy has added to our great team here at Comrie but don’t worry we won’t be sending him out on his bike to service machines! Watch this space for new Comrie faces!!!
Comrie Automatics – Meet the Team
This month we are delighted to introduce one of our Directors, Cheryl Greig.
Cheryl has been a Director of Comrie now for 5 years and has bought about a lot of internal changes to bring us up to date with modern ways of working and also saving us a lot of time.
Cheryl previously worked for Coventry Business School for 18 years. She has therefore brought a wealth of knowledge from the ever expanding Coventry University to help push us forward.
Cheryl deals with all Comrie’s Accounts, Administration and the ongoing red tape that UK businesses have to deal with.
A little something that you didn’t know about Cheryl…..
At the ripe old age of 44 she is still paying netball and says it is a great stress relief, not from the business but from looking after her husband and two kids!
Cheryl is also the “Star” of our Comrie video and a few people have said she could have been a professional Newsreader. You can watch the video here Watch The Video
Until the next Comrie superstar.
A valued member of the Comrie team.
Justin has been part of the Comrie service team for over 6 years and still says to this day – ‘that he enjoys everyday as the work is so varied!’
Justin originally came from the Metal industry working in and around furnaces. In fact starting his working days straight from school, Justin served his apprenticeship within the Metal industry, clocking up 20 years service before coming to work with us here at Comrie.
So when he is under pressure, he will quite often say ‘It’s never as hot under the collar as his furnace days!’
Justin not only deals with the day to day calls and problems on site but also keeps a check on all equipment coming in and out of the Comrie depot.
In Justin’s words; He works hard and gives it his all and then enjoys going to the pub not to do a service call but to enjoy a well earned pint. He also enjoys taking and watching his lad play football for his local team.
Here’s to another 6 years…cheers
New Engineer For Comrie Team
We are pleased to welcome on board Matt McIntyre to our great team here at Comrie Automatics. Without a doubt Matt is going to add a lot of value to our customers with his background in electronics. Matt will be part of our jukebox install team and be responsible for dealing with all our digital gaming and amusement machines.
Matt’s passion is cars and the latest gadgets, he will always be tinkering with some new device. When asked to tell us something about him self he said “I can’t do without my toast in the morning”
Welcome on board Matt
MEET THE TEAM
We will be introducing our Team members to you over the coming months and have asked them all to pull out there best photos for the occasion.
The spotlight is on our Marketing Director first, Mark Greig who is an integral member of our fast expanding team here at Comrie Automatics.
Mark is in charge of our advertising and marketing to Public Houses, Social clubs and Colleges/Universities. He also visits customers to explain how we can increase machine revenue up with some great in house marketing, and point of sale information.
Mark has also been featured in the Morning Advertiser trade paper to the Pub and Club industry about gambling machines and giving advice to Licensees.
In his down time Mark is a Coventry City season ticket holder (for his sins) and when not checking on the Sky Blues can be found running around the tennis court or shouting (even louder than at the City) at his black Labrador Diesel at dog training.
What he might not tell you is the trainer said that Mark needs more training than Diesel!!
Feel free to call our office to ask advice on Jukebox hire or dog training any time. Mark is also a business growth advisor for Nigel Botterills Entreprenuers Circle, Click here for more information – http://businessgrowthadvisor.co.uk/coventry
